6TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

One Art Space is proud to present the 6th Annual International Women’s Day in honor of International Women’s Day (#IWD2022oneartspace). International Women’s Day first began in New York City in 1911 and has historically been utilized to call attention to the many hardships and oppressions faced by women throughout the world. The Suffragettes founded International Women’s Day to unite and empower women in their fight for equality and to this day, it continues to inspire individuals to persevere in the face of adversity, celebrate powerful women, and organize direct action to further our progress as a society towards the abolishment of gender inequality.

We support the modern day Suffragettes of the International Women’s Day Campaign in promoting this holiday and their ten core values of justice, dignity, hope, equality, collaboration, tenacity, appreciation, respect, empathy, and forgiveness.

This year, we celebrate by presenting an exhibition in honor of the monumental achievements of women throughout history. The International Women’s Day Art Fair features a diverse, international collection of talented, female-identifying artists of varying ages.

NFT COLLECTION: "REMEMBRANCE"

A new NFT collection of my work has been launched on the OpenSea marketplace. A project inspired by Día de Los Muertos.

Remembrance is a collection comprised of 12 unique images inspired by Día de Los Muertos. The importance of this series of photographs lies in the impact that the current Covid-19 pandemic has had on cultures globally and in the way each culture has approached mortality and grief. People all over the world have lost a multitude of loved ones over the past 20 months and have mourned the losses very differently. The concept behind this series of photographs is to showcase how the Mexican culture approaches mortality and manages to turn sorrow and grief into a celebration of the circle of life.

ARTARA

Limkokwing University is pleased to present the exhibition “ARTARA”, a group exhibition featuring photographs, graphic design and product design. The featured artists are final year students from three different Bachelor (Hons) degree programs: Creative Imaging in Digital Photography, Professional Design and Industrial Design. The exhibition will run virtually from Tuesday, November 16, 2021, until Tuesday, January 25, 2022. This exhibition symbolizes the end of an era. As one chapter closes, another opens. As the students finish their studies and set forth into adulthood, this exhibition is a celebration and culmination of years of hard studious work.

THAIPUSAM

Over a million Hindus gather every year at various temples nationwide to celebrate Thaipusam. The exact date of this important Hindu event is based on the full moon day in the month of Thai (January/February) in the Hindu calendar. Thaipusam is a celebration dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Murugan (youngest son of Shiva and his wife Parvati). The celebrations take place on a grand scale at the Batu Caves(Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple) just outside of Kuala Lumpur.

The IPA Lucie Awards is one of the world's most prestigious international photography awards. It's like the Academy Awards in the world of photography. The Honorees this year include world-renowned photographers Annie Leibowitz, Maggie Steber, Ellen von Unwerth, Jay Maisel, Stephen Shore, Edward Burtynsky, Al Bello, Zanele Muholi, Rencontres d’Arles, and Tyler Hicks.

On 7 December, Student Council Amsterdam hosted their annual Hoscars ceremony once again. The aim of the event was to reward and recognize Lecturers and Instructors that contribute to the great success of Hotelschool The Hague. During the evening, several awards were handed out accompanied by live entertainment and a gala dinner. According to tradition, all the proceeds were donated to the charity foundation: School of Life.

MUNTIGUNUNG

📍BALI, INDONESIA

Daniel Elber founded the Swiss-Indonesian non-profit organization Muntigunung Community Social Enterprise, Bali in 2014. The organization urges and supports sustainable developments in destitute regions of Bali - Muntigunung being their primary focus. This region of Bali is known for their reputation of sending women and children to be beggars in the streets of Ubud and other regions in southern Bali. In order to reduce this issue, the organization collaborated with Dian Desa - the most reputed development organization in Indonesia - to solve this problem. The organization provided a solution by bringing jobs to them through different projects. The serenity of this hike with a breathtaking view of Lake Batur and the Indian Ocean was unimaginable. The solitude and silence reveal a sense of comfort in oneself where you become one with nature.

YAYASAN SARASWATI ENVIRONMENTAL SCHOOL

I volunteered as an English teacher for 5 to 16-year-olds in a community school where I organized, structured, and taught the lesson plans together with my Indonesian colleague.

Yayasan Saraswati Environmental School was founded by Gisela v. Keiser and Rainer Grenkowitz in 2009. From day one, the mission of the school has been to offer the local children of the community lessons in English free of charge as well as projects that are directed towards environmental education and protection. All activities and lessons are organized by a varying team of passionate teachers and volunteers from all over the world. The school project is sustained by an incoming flow of donations and the generosity, gratitude and enthusiasm of the people who want to give back to the children of Bondalem.

BEAUTY LIES IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER

The smile is a universal language recognized all over the world, throughout all cultures. It opens people's hearts and forgoes prejudices, fears, and judgments as it allows for a personal approach to an otherwise overwhelming loaded topic. There are 138 people of all races living at the 'Pusat' with ages from 9 month-olds to 56 year-olds, who have come from all over peninsular Malaysia - amid them are 100 children. Most have various disabilities such as down syndrome, cerebral palsy, visual impairments, microcephalous, among others. They were all either abandoned or from abusive households. With the permission of the director and after having gained the children's trust, I was fortunate to be able to capture their portraits in the normal state of their daily life. Profound gratitude goes towards Taman Megah’s Handicapped & Disabled Children’s Home in Kuala Lumpur where I volunteered over the summer of 2015.

THE KAREN HILL TRIBE OF MAE HONG SON

📍MAE HONG SON, THAILAND

Hill tribes are often overlooked in our society as minorities, when they are truly the ones who have kept tradition alive for all these centuries, making them wiser than the rest of us. They have maintained their traditional ways of life for generations. I wanted to grasp this concept by capturing and portraying the people of the Karen hill-tribes of Northern Thailand in their natural state of mind along with their customs and traditions that still remain a major part of their daily life. Each individual in that village had unique characteristics about them along with ages ranging from newborns to the elderly and wise that intrigued me greatly. It was as though they each told a different story, but as a whole remained similar within their community. I had a grand opportunity to photograph these people and live amongst them for a week. Taking the photographs whilst being involved in activities was challenging, as I always had to keep an eye open and looking for perfect opportunities. I call these “in the moment” photographs - unique, candid, and all around natural - not arranged positions as they would be in a studio.

MOROS Y CRISTIANOS

📍XABIA, SPAIN

Moros y Cristianos celebrated is mainly in the southern Valencian Community commemorating the battles, combats, and fights between the Moors (Muslims) and Christians during a period known as Reconquista in the 8th - 15th century. The festival showcases the capture of the city by the Moors and the subsequent Christian reconquest. The festival usually lasts for several days, featuring parades with pompous costumes loosely inspired by Medieval fashion, portrayed through my photographs.
